BEGINNER OR ADVANCED

Are you a complete beginner with no or hardly any maritime experience or already a certified, experienced and confident sailor? Young and enthusiastic? Ready to take a new step in your career?

Based on your previous experience and licence we have prepared two academy programmes.

BEGINNER Course

FORMAT

SailWeek has created Skipper Academy from the need of high quality staff who can answer the call of this dynamic industry. Our mission is to produce top skippers that are going to be able to give high quality service on/off board.

SailWeek Skipper Academy
  • Highlight of the Beginner course will be on getting maritime skills, safety, communication, teamwork and crew management. All these skills are going to be gained one-on-one from our professional certified skipper instructors.
  • During your academy you'll share a yacht with fellow skipper candidates and each day will be spent on board learning the theory and then implementing your knowledge with supervision of the instructor.
  • Everything on board will be detailed explained and demonstrated by your sailing instructor. You will go through all possible scenarios and you will have to apply your knowledge to the given situation. Your instructors will guide you through exercises, tips and tricks, giving you constant feedback until you are ready to fully take over the control.
Beginner Skipper Academy

This two week intensive sail & study course gives you the skills to sail your own boat safely anywhere in the Mediterranean, Baltic or other non-tidal waters in any weather conditions.

After finishing SailWeek Academy BEGINNER COURSE you will be ready for the upcoming test for Leaders license category C or equivalent issued in your country.

  • During the first week of Beginner course we will teach you basic sailing skills and everything necessary to enter the world of sailing.

    You'll get the skills required for the upcoming 2nd week where you'll improve your theoretical and practical skills gained in the first week and be ready for the upcoming test for Leaders license category C (up to 30 GT) or equivalent issued in your country.

  • After finishing two week training your knowledge and skills will be evaluated by sailing instructor.

    During the SailWeek Skipper Academy exam extra attention will be on sailing and mooring, check in procedure, safety, communication skills and teamwork.

    NOTE: Sailing instructor who gives evaluation of your skills and knowledge will not be the same instructor who was leading you through the programme of the academy.

    • Assumed knowledge: none or basic
    • Minimum age: 18
    • Language skills: Fluent in English
    • Minimum duration: 14 days
    • Location: Central Dalmatia (Split region)
    • Ability after the course: Able to skipper a boat by day in coastal regions
    • Needed Medical evidence for upcoming skipper licence: Yes (you can do your Medical until the start of the 2nd week of Basic course)

  • After successfully finishing SailWeek Academy you will be ready for the upcoming test for Leaders license category C or equivalent issued in your country.

    In partnership with Maritime Education and training centre ADRIA LIBAR we offer you to get your sailing skills certified so you are authorized to command yachts up to 30 GT for private and business purposes.

Advanced Course

FORMAT

ADVANCED course is the intensive 7 days course that will improve your theoretical and practical skills.

Our mission is to upgrade leisure skippers to top skippers that are going to be able to give high quality service on/off board.

  • All these skills are going to be gained one-on-one from our professional certified skipper instructors.
  • Special attention will be focused on sailing and mooring, night navigation, safety and emergency response, check in, crew management, social and interpersonal skills.
  • During your academy you'll share a yacht with fellow skipper candidates and each day will be spent on board learning the theory and then implementing your knowledge with supervision of the instructor.
  • Everything on board will be detailed explained and demonstrated by your sailing instructor. You will go through all possible scenarios and you will have to apply your knowledge to the given situation. Your instructors will guide you through exercises, giving you tips and tricks and constant feedback.
Advanced Skipper Academy

Licenses

To attend this course you have to have one of the internationally recognised sailing qualifications.

This is not a beginners course! You should be comfortable handling a yacht in any weather condition.

  • During this Advanced course we want to make you from leisure skipper into a professional skipper, turning your weaknesses into your strengths. You will gain experience needed to work in the nautical industry through more complex navigation exercises.

  • After finishing your Advanced training your knowledge and skills will be evaluated by sailing instructor.

    During the SailWeek Skipper Academy exam extra attention will be on sailing and mooring, check in procedure, safety, communication skills and teamwork.

    NOTE: Sailing instructor who gives evaluation of your skills and knowledge will not be the same instructor who was leading you through the programme of the academy.

For the candidates who successfully finish SailWeek Skipper Academy we promise at least two weeks of work for SailWeek.

During that two weeks you'll get the opportunity to show us everything you learned through the Academy.

After that, based on the demand and overall skills, you'll may get offered more work from SailWeek.

Skippers operate as a freelance contractors and can accept or reject any work we offer.
