WHAT IS SAILWEEK SKIPPER ACADEMY?
SailWeek skipper academy is a training course for candidates who want to learn to sail or take their sailing career to the next level. Learning to become a professional skipper or just gain more knowledge this academy teaches you all you need to know to work as either a flotilla skipper or as a private charter skipper.
WHAT IS SAILWEEK HOSTESS ACADEMY?
SailWeek Hostess Academy is a one week long training academy to teach you everything you need to start your career as a hostess. You will learn how to prepare food and keep the boat clean along with some basic sailing knowlege.
HOW LONG IS THE ACADEMY?
We have Beginner sailing courses which last 14 days. Beginners course is always held in 2 separate weeks, not for 14 days in a row. Advanced and Catamaran sailing course lasting 7 days And Hostess course which last 7 days. All courses are always from Saturday to Saturday.
WHERE IS THE ACADEMY HELD?
Courses are held in Croatia throughout April and May and in Greece during May.
IS ACCOMODATION PROVIDED DURING THE ACADEMY?
Yes. While you are attending the academy full linen bedding is provided on the boat.
During your academy you'll share a yacht with fellow candidates and each day will be spent on board learning the theory and then implementing your knowledge with supervision of the instructor.
WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS?
All of our instructors are high professionals in their field. Everything on board will be detailed explained and demonstrated by your instructors. You will go through all possible scenarios and you will have to apply your knowledge to the given situation. Your instructors will guide you through exercises, tips and tricks, giving you constant feedback until you are ready to fully take over the control.
AFTER I FINISH WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE AND THE LICENCE?
  • SailWeek Academy issue: SailWeek Academy FlotilaTM certificate which is a company brand certification of competence.
  • We do not issue international licence
  • Beginners to work as a SailWeek skipper need to obtain an international license and after Beginners course they will be ready to do so. Approved international licenselicencs are listed here:

IS WORK GUARANTEED AFTER THE ACADEMY?
Yes. For the candidates who successfully finish one of our courses we offer 4 weeks of work. You must have a valid commercial sailing licence to work as a skipper.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WORK FOR SAILWEEK?
Skippers
  1. You have to successfully finish one of our SailWeek Academy courses.
  2. To become a skipper you have a valid commercial sailing licence.
  3. Skipper gear: T-shirts and Lycra which you will receive from us to use.
  4. If you want to work as a skipper fo SailWeek, you have to have your own VHF radio.
  5. The skipper is obliged to have its own skipper insurance. Skipper can't work without it.
Hostess
  1. No STCW License is Required to Work as a Hostess at Sailweek.

Applications and payment

HOW DO I APPLY TO ACADEMY? WHEN I WILL KNOW IF I AM ACCEPTED FOR THE ACADEMY?
To apply to the Academy please fill in the application form and send your CV. After that we'll contact you directly via email and communicate all the things needed. After you have paid the 1st instalment you can consider yourself IN.
I HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE? CAN I ATTEND ADVANCED OR CATAMARAN COURSE?
Only the candidates with a valid commercial sailing licence and experience can go to our Advanced and Catamaran courses.
WHAT LICENCES ARE ACCEPTED TO ATTEND THE ADVANCED AND CATAMARAN SAILING COURSES?

I HAVE THE LICENCE AND DRIVE MOTOR BOATS. CAN I ATTEND THE ADVANCED COURSE?
Theoretically yes, but we wouldn't recommend that. If you don’t have experience with sailing boats, we recommend taking the Beginner course.
WHAT ARE THE ADDITIONAL COSTS?
Flights and/or transportation to Academy starting point (Split) One group dinner out mid week (mandatory) Food and beverages NOTE: Every sail boat has kitchen facilities and you'll be able to prepare your meals onboard without extra big costs for your budget.
CAN I PAY IN INSTALLMENTS?
Yes you can pay in installments.

Getting Certified (Skipper only)

DOES SAILWEEK ISSUES CERTIFICATES?
No.Valid commercial certificates and licences in Croatia are issued only by Croatian Port authorities after taking theory and practise classes in one of the certified maritime schools.
WHAT DO I NEED TO GET CERTIFIED AFTER THE SAILWEEK ACADEMY?
You can get certified for skipper before or after the Academy. Some of the candidates even do the theory classes right before or after the 2nd week of the Beginner course. If you are interested in getting the licence please contact us by email. We have a special discount for our candidates in Maritime Education and training centre ADRIA LIBAR. Theory courses are held in Split, Šibenik, Zadar or Zagreb during the year.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GET CERTIFIED?
  • Theory course Maritime Education and training centre ADRIA LIBAR: 1645 HRK (220 EUR)
  • Accommodation and transfers during the theory course time
  • Medical evidence for skipper licence (not older than 6 months) 500 HRK (70 EUR)
  • Test Croatian Maritime authorities:
    • Croatian citizens: 540 HRK (70 EUR)
    • Foreign citizens: 1020 HRK (140 EUR)
  • Test tax: 35 HRK (5 EUR)
IS THE ACCOMODATION INCLUDED DURING THE THEORY COURSES?
No. Candidates have to find their own accommodation during the theory courses. ( 2-3 days)
